because poetry and music are similar indeed.

Because I love me some Katie Norris-Wilke song-writing/singing. You sound like Zooey Deschanel, Ms. Norris!

Live music performed by Madi Smith at The Brew in Dickinson, ND.

Madi has a beautiful voice and is a gifted songwriter. I picked up her EP at this show and I am sincerely enjoying it! I also really appreciated the songs she picked to cover when she performed. Damien Rice, Blitzen Trapper? Well chosen. Check Madi out on facebook HERE!

  3. Check out native North Dakotan band Running On Empty. My work friend happens to be acquainted with the drummer (or something to that effect) and played me this song of theirs. I was expecting something amateurish (isn’t that always the case with acquaintances who have bands?) but I was pleasantly surprised. ROE has a polished-juvie-rock kind of sound, and I’ve really been enjoying them. I’m especially fond of this song, which I personally believe is their best. It’s not very hipster, but it might remind you of stuff like Blink-182, Brand New, or Motion City Soundtrack (whom I love, and exactly the band that came to mind when I heard this single!). Band members currently listed are Travis Mack on guitar and Aric Ficek on Drums.

They’re gaining quite a bit of momentum here and across the country! Check out their facebook page, buy their music on ITUNES and show some support for our ND music makers.

I’m constantly on the look-out for ND bands, btw, and if you happen to know of any send some links my way!
